UMN Corn-Soybean Experiment (2023)
A controlled corn-soybean experiment was conducted at the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus plots in 2023 to investigate the methodology of retrieving LAI from oblique UAV images.
Achivement: we introduce an innovative approach, named NeRF-LAI, for corn and soybean LAI estimation that combines gap-fraction theory with the neural radiance field (NeRF) technology. The NeRF-LAI method can map LAI from raw multi-angle 2D images without prior information, offering a potential alternative to the traditional in-situ plant canopy analyzer with a more flexible and efficient solution.
